Volleyball Booster Club President Michelle Fusselman said the athletics program at BNHS has generated a lot of excitement and said anyone who wishes to participate in the volleyball booster club is welcome.

"Our mission this year is to excite and educate everyone about the volleyball program at Byron Nelson High School," Fusselman said.

She said the volleyball boosters have a couple of other objectives for the coming school year, as well.

"The primary goal of the booster club is to raise funds for the purpose of providing a memorable and quality banquet at the conclusion of the season," Fusselman said. "Secondary goals are to raise money to aid in purchasing additional items that may be on our coach’s future wish list, and a longer term goal is to provide scholarships for senior participants."

The volleyball booster club will have a "Rally Night" from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the Trophy Club Community Pool, 500 Park View Drive, where parents and supporters will have the opportunity to meet Coach Libby Pacheco.

Byron Nelson Volleyball Scores With New Coach BNHS Coaches (from Alliance News)

As the NISD continues to fill its arsenal of coaches for the new Byron Nelson High School, the district recently added another gem to the lineup.

Former Colleyville Heritage High School volleyball coach Libby Pacheco was recently hired for the position of head JV volleyball coach at Nelson High School, and NISD Assistant Athletic Director Gary Prescott said it was a real coups for the district.

"She applied for the job, but she is definitely one that you would shoot to hire if you could name some coaches you would go after," he said. "It was kind of a mutual thing."

Pacheco led Colleyville Heritage to a district championship last season and said a couple of things appealed to her about the Byron Nelson job.

"This is the chance to start a new program," Pacheco said. "It will be great to build it up and be able to work with the middle school program, as well. We want to set a high expectation of winning and excellence within the school."

Moving from a varsity to a JV coach is going to be an adjustment, Pacheco said.

"It’s going to be a little bit different," she said. "I think I am going to have to take a different approach to practices and getting the girls ready, because they are not going to be at the varsity skill level.

"It’s going to take a couple of years to get them there, and I am going to keep harping on them about how they need to be prepared for next year to make that jump."

Pacheco said she is going to have her team compete in a varsity tournament next year to prepare it for the move to varsity in the 2010-11 season.

Pacheco was named Coach of the Year in 5-5A in 2006 and 2008, led the Panthers to playoff appearances in three of the last four seasons and has had numerous go on to play college volleyball.

Pacheco said she has a couple of objectives for the coming year at Byron Nelson.

"I think the biggest thing is learning the game and learning the different systems," she said. "We want them to get comfortable and be prepared for the next season for varsity competition."
