Congradulations to all that medaled at state. All the hard work, early mornings and late days, payed off. Keep up the good work. Very proud of ALL that went to state. Good job.

The Trophy Club Tritons sent 83 swimmers to San Antonio for the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Games of Texas summer swim meet last week, and the team finished from the competition with nearly 100 awards.

Steve Melbourn, who coaches for the Northwest school district, has coached the summer swim team for 12 years. Melbourn said that the state meet was "the biggest and the fastest I have seen. There were about 1000 swimmers from all over Texas."

This season, the Tritons had 178 participants ranging from 6 - 59 years old. Of those, 146 qualified for regionals and 83 for state. To qualify for state, the swimmers had to place in the top four at regionals.

Last week, the team walked away with 29 medals and 69 ribbons for a total of 98 awards – a new record, Melbourn said.

For the past three years, Melbourn has focused on the 8U and 9-10 divisions, building them for long-term growth.

Evidently his plan paid off. Many first time qualifiers made it to state this year.

"They worked really hard to get it, and they performed great," said Melbourn.

The 8U and 9-10 divisions earned about 75 percent of the medals, he said.

The summer swim league is comprised of people mainly from Trophy Club but also the surrounding areas, including Roanoke, Southlake, Grapevine, and Keller.

Summer season practice began for the Tritons May 16, and ended last weekend in San Antonio at the state meet. With nine practices a week – five mornings and four evenings – the team requires a summer-long commitment, Melbourn said.

Among those winning medals were the 8U girls relay team with Abby Mann, Brydon McKwan, Meredith Fusselman, and Allaya Cantu. In the 11-12 girls 50-meter breast stroke, Erin Orred medaled.

Other medalists include Kaylin Stube, Kristin Eichinseer, Mikel Thomas, Jake Greener, Grace Duninck, Martysal Cantu, Molly Henson, Claire Unruh, Madeline Wilson, Madison Macy, Casey Greener, Sarah Taylor, Adam Koster, Nathan Lenkiewicz, Jack Marshal, Seth Winstead, Trey Stoermer, Stormy Venator and Melissa Eichinseer.

We will be having a meeting in August for the booster club and need to get everyone notified that needs to be notified. If you know anyone else in the same boat, please have them do the same thing.
