Principal Named for Byron Nelson High School

Linda Parker, who currently serves as associate principal at Northwest High School, will begin her duties as principal of Byron Nelson High on July 1. The school will open in August 2009 with a freshman and sophomore class, adding a new freshman class each year. By the fall of 2011, the campus is expected to have approximately 1,800 students in ninth through twelfth grades.

Parker has served students in Northwest ISD since 2001 as a teacher, house principal, and associate principal of curriculum and instruction. As associate principal of Northwest High School, Parker is the instructional leader for curriculum and works closely with teachers on staff development and best teaching practices to enhance learning for all students. Through analysis of TAKS data, Parker created an intervention program for increased success in math and science and worked diligently to hire highly motivated staff who could build confidence and skills in students. As a house principal, Parker handled discipline, attendance and instructional needs of students.

At the April 14 Northwest ISD board meeting, it was revealed to the public that the school colors were royal blue and black and the mascot is the bobcat. The attendance boundary for Byron Nelson High School was approved by the NISD school board on December 10. Students who live in the eastern portion of Northwest ISD, including the entire area east of I-35W, portions east of 287 and south of Golden Triangle, and a part of Northlake, will attend the new school.
