About Byron Nelson

John Byron Nelson, Jr. (February 4, 1912 – September 26, 2006) was an American PGA Tour golfer between 1935 and 1946.
He is mostly remembered today for having won 11 consecutive tournaments and 18 total tournaments in 1945.

"Lord Byron," as he was known in the world of golf, was born in 1912 in Waxahachie but lived in Roanoke until he died Sept. 27, 2006, at 94. He took up the sport while caddying at Glen Garden Country Club in Fort Worth.

Many sports historians consider Nelson to be the architect of the modern swing. Nelson won the Masters in 1937 and 1942, the U.S. Open in 1939 and the PGA Championship in 1940 and 1945. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

He retired officially at the age of 34 to be a rancher, later becoming a commentator and lending his name to the Byron Nelson Championship, the first PGA Tour event to be named for a professional golfer. In 1974, Byron Nelson received the Bob Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association in recognition of distinguished sportsmanship in golf.

In April, 2007 the Northwest Independent School District announced the construction of Byron Nelson High School. The school is located in Trophy Club, Texas, near Nelson's hometown of Roanoke. Go Byron Nelson Bobcats!

Realignment, BNHS a Bubble Team To Move North

Reclassification and Realignment for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 school years will be released on February 2, 2012.

Expect changes. Saginaw High is dropping to 4A and will certainly combine with Saginaw Boswell. Saginaw Chisholm Trail will also come into the current district as a new school. Timber Creek will move to 5A and Springtown to 3A. But it's really The Colony High School (who will remain 4A) that Byron Nelson needs to watch since BNHS is a candidate to fill a Denton…
